The 20/20/20 Rule - Computer Usage
The Eye Doctor recommends to follow the 20/20/20 rule when working long days on a computer. The 20/20/20 rules states that every 20 minutes look away 20 feet for 20 seconds. This allows your eyes to relax by focusing on objects at different distances reducing accommodation and eye strain. The 20/20/20 rule also gives you a moment to blink which refreshes the cornea with tears. Tears keep the eyes healthy and we tend to blink less the longer we spend on an electronic device. This rule also gives you a mental break, even for only 20 seconds, which reduces mental stress and UV strain. Blue UV rays are correlated to disrupted sleep patterns which is probably because of the disrupted melatonin levels in the brain. Follow this simple rule if you spend a prolong period of time on the computer or another electronic device and keep your eyes healthy! You and your Optometrist will be happy with the results.
